Sang this in morning assemblies in the 70s at Kenya High School. It was one of my favourite hymns, and now I find it very spiritually uplifting still. God bless Mr. Ward wherever he is.

We sang this in my old school, Incarnation, back in the 1940s, but with a different melody. It's so good to finally learn who wrote the beautiful lyrics.

I love this hymn, but these singers are a bit choppy. Note, note, note---no sense of flow. The tunecis basicaly a waltz, but they don't lilt at all.

BP. Christopher Wordsworth, who wrote the words, was the nephew of William Wordsworth. His daughter Elizabeth, also a published poet, was the first Principal of Lady Mrgaret Haal, one of the women's colleges at Oxford. The Tune is by Sir Arthur Sullivan, who wrote all those silly operettas; musically, it would fit into "Pirates of Penzance".
